Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks Writing Club

A guide for students participating in the CSU writing club using the text Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks by Wendy Laura Belcher.

Week X: Responding to Journal Decisions

  1. What was the journal's decision? Is it a clear rejection, or is there an invitation to resubmit?
  2. Based on the decision, what path will you take? Will you revise and resubmit? Will you leave the article as is and find another journal? Will you abandon the project?
  3. Is there a deadline for you to resubmit?
  4. Will you need to request permissions for using any copyrighted content?
  • Determine what decision the journal made about your submission.
  • Plan your revision.
  • Revise the article.
  • Write a revision cover letter.
  • Request permissions if necessary.
  • Resubmit the article.

Possible Responses to Your Article

  2. Make minor revisions and resubmit.
  3. Make major revisions and resubmit.
  4. Rejected but may consider resubmission.
