Week 2: Starting Your Article

  1. What type of article are you attempting to write? (pp 44-48)
  2. What approach are you taking to craft a publishable article?
    1. Approaching new evidence in an old way.
    2. Approaching old evidence in a new way.
    3. Pairing old evidence with old approaches in a new way.
  3. What is your article about? Try to summarize to the group or someone else you trust.
  4. How much revision will your paper need?
  • Identify what type of article you're writing.
  • Try summarizing your article to a friend or the group.
  • Re-read your paper and make a list of revision tasks.
  • Create a draft of your abstract.
  • Find and read a model article.

Myths About Publishing Journal Articles

  1. Only articles heavy on theory and with enormous implications are published.
  2. Only articles with many exciting, interesting ideas get published.
  3. Only entirely original articles get published.
