Etiquette

Handshakes and head nods of acknowledgement are socially acceptable ways of greeting. Physical affection is typically limited to close friends of the same gender.

When making plans, make sure to be on time! Punctuality is a virtue. It's typical to be reserved in educational, professional, and formal settings.

Eating is a social event. Meals are a preferred way to meet with friends, engage with family, or pursue business amicably.

Tipping when dining out is complicated. In some areas of China, it can be considered an insult due to acknowledging a power and class dynamic between the server and someone receiving a service. In other regions, it's expected, due to economic shifts.
