Cleveland Memory Project Best Practices Guide

Best practices for digitizing, post-processing, archiving, and creating metadata for the Cleveland Memory Project.

Metadata Best Practices

Describing our digital collections is intrinsic to providing access to our patrons as well as managing our digital resources internally. With each new collection that is selected for inclusion as part of our digital collections, we will need to assess what works best for that particular project.

Before you start creating metadata, training will be scheduled with the Head of Collections and Digital Initiatives. Once you have received training, you will need:

  • URL for the CSU CONTENTdm Adminstration webpage
  • Username and password for your collection
  • Digital image file you will be adding to Cleveland Memory meeting the following specifications:
  •   Format: jpeg
  •   Resolution: 72 dpi
  •   Size: 600 pixels wide or high at largest dimension
  •   Filename: lowercase WITHOUT spaces or special characters
  • Image file size data for the high resolution tif files that your jpegs were derived from
