Academic/Scholarly Articles

Articles are published in periodicals -- journals, magazines, and newspapers. To find ARTICLES on a topic, search the Michael Schwartz Library's Research Databases and/or in Discovery @ CSU.

For academic research, you should include articles from scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. In the peer review process, an article is assessed by experts in the same subject area before being accepted by the journal for publication. Most databases will allow you to LIMIT your results to peer-reviewed journals when searching.

Articles / Discovery @ CSU

Search Discovery @ CSU to find ARTICLES from scholarly and popular sources at CSU's Michael Schwartz Library.
If you are searching for articles on a topic, select a specific SCOPE to search:
  • Everything @CSU
  • Articles
When searching for scholarly articles on a topic:
  • Enter a few keywords that describe your topic.
  • Tweak your results using the filters on the left.
    • Under Resource Type, select Articles.
    • Under Availability, select Available online.
    • Under Availability, select Peer-reviewed Journals.
    • Refine the "Creation Date" to find items published within a certain time frame or to find newer items.
  • Use the citation generator (quotation marks symbol) to create an MLA citation for each article. Remember to check citations for accuracy before including them in your work!

Articles / Research Databases

Below are links to some key Research Databases where you can find journal articles and/or law articles.

For your short paper on a foundational U.S. document, I recommend starting with the databases named Hein Online and JSTOR.

*Tip: Look for citing help within each database. Most will give you an option to automatically generate an MLA citation for your source. Copy and paste it into your Works Cited page, but check the citations for accuracy before submitting your work!
