  • Enter just a few keywords that describe your topic.
  • Tweak your results using the filters on the left - under "Resource Type," select "Books."
    • E-books will show "Available Online." Follow the link to access the full text.
    • Print books will display a call number and location in the library.
  • Use the citation generator (quotation marks symbol) to create an APA citation for the book you select.
  • Follow the steps shown below to find a peer-reviewed journal article in this result list.

2. Academic Peer-Reviewed Journal Article

There are two ways to use library resources to find an academic peer-reviewed journal article that is relevant to your topic.
  • One way is to re-tweak the same result list you used to find a book (see steps above).
    • Remove the "books" filter
    • Click "Peer-reviewed Journals" to apply that filter
  • Use the citation generator (quotation marks symbol) to create an APA citation for the article you select.

Search tips:

  • start with one or two keywords
  • add additional keywords if needed to refine/focus your search
  • apply filters to narrow results:
    • EBSCO Full Text
    • Peer Reviewed
    • Language - English
  • Use the citation generator (quotation marks symbol) to create an APA citation for the article you select.

5. Website

The websites listed below are some examples of authoritative sources you can browse for background information about social services agencies and activities. Most have a search feature you can use to look for keywords such as history, historical data, etc.

Use Google to find historical/background information about social services and government agencies or entities:

  • Add site:.gov to your keyword search to find federal and state websites
  • Add site:ohio.gov to your keyword search to focus on Ohio
