Music: Writing Program Notes

A guide for students who are writing program notes for their recitals.

Getting Started

Before you begin writing your program note, it'll help to have some basic understanding of:

  • the composer(s) of the piece you're playing
  • the theory and compositional elements of the piece you're playing
  • the historical context of the piece
  • how the piece is generally performed
