Welcome to the Research Guide for ENG 102!

Welcome to the ENG 102 research guide! This guide is designed to assist you in learning to navigate the Library's vast resources efficiently and effectively.

After completing the ENG 102 library sessions, you should be able to:

  • Construct search statements that identify the main ideas of your thesis.
  • Locate books, articles, videos and other credible sources that that inform you about the research topic from multiple perspectives.
  • Distinguish between popular and scholarly sources.  
  • Use the database tools to create MLA citations for documenting sources.

Research Success Plan

STEP 1: Select and develop your topic by genertating a list of questions and keywords.

STEP 2: Find background information.

STEP 3: Consult with a LIBRARIAN.

STEP 4: Use SCHOLAR CATALOG to locate books and media.

STEP 5: Use the RESEARCH DATABASES to find articles from periodicals.

STEP 6: Read, take notes, evaluate your sources.

STEP 7: Conduct additional research to fill in the gaps.

STEP 8: Write your rough draft and create MLA WORKS CITED page.

STEP 9: Visit the WRITING CENTER for help editing and correcting rough draft.

STEP 10: Revise and rewrite; turn paper in on time.
