Course Development Toolkit for Faculty

Library Services

The Michael Schwartz Library provides access to a vast amount of subscription and open content. You can use this guide to find learning materials for your courses, but it's always a good idea to ask your subject librarian as well. We're here to help you!

Many of our eBook licenses allow for simultaneous use by unlimited users. We have found that many instructors are not aware that the library has access to materials they have selected as their textbook.

For more information about library ebooks, see this guide or ask your librarian.

Access to assigned textbooks provided by the library as ebooks was estimated to equal $30,000 in savings to CSU students for the Spring 2016 semester.

The Michael Schwartz Library can make some course readings and materials available through Course Reserves. Course materials that are eligible to be used under fair use can be accessed electronically via the ECR portal. Library copies or personal copies of materials can also be made available, by placing them on reserve and making them available to be checked out for limited amounts of time. For more information, consult the Faculty Guide for Submitting Materials.

The Textbook Center on the first floor of the Michael Schwartz Library at the User Services desk, offers a limited selection of print textbooks required for some of the larger general education classes for the semester. CSU Students with a valid VikingCard may borrow these textbooks to use in the Library for 2-hour loan. In addition to the print textbooks, the Library offers some eTextbooks, digital versions of books required for classes. See the eBooks @ CSU Research Guide for help loading eTextbooks.

All textbooks and eTextbooks available for a given semester are listed in Course Reserves by course name or instructor.

OneSearch

Search through almost all library databases and content at once. Limit to ebooks to find books that your students can access from anywhere. Limit to Cleveland State University to find materials in our collection (as opposed to OhioLINK).

Openly Licensed Course Materials

Openly-licensed materials are free for your students and can be modified without copyright concerns. If you'd like, your subject librarian can create a syllabus map for you with open and free course material options for you to consider. Feel free to ask!
