Academic publisher Wiley recently implemented CloudFlare Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection on their Wiley Online Library web site to protect PDF downloads of ebooks. This is creating issues for the CSU and OhioLINK proxies used for off-campus access. When attempting to download PDFs of ebook chapters or journal articles from the Wiley Online Library web site from off-campus, you may see a frustrating error like this:
Fortunately, there are other ways to access these ebooks! When viewing a Wiley ebook record in Scholar, make sure to use the “Connect to resource OhioLINK” link in the record instead of “Connect to resource (off-campus) Wiley Online Library”.
This will take you to the OhioLINK Electronic Book Center to access the ebook in question. If you do end up on the Wiley Online Library web site, clicking “View and download full book” will allow you to successfully view the ebook on the web site. If you need to download the ebook, use the ePub option instead of PDF. Make sure you install Adobe Digital Editions to read the ePub version.
We apologize for the inconvenience. OhioLINK has reached out to Wiley to investigate this problem.
